Lodi Lake Picnic

Marsha Sanger writes #47:

Twenty-seven gathered together at Lodi Lake on Friday, October 26, 2018, for a good dose of chatting, laughing, sharing, and camaraderie. Do you know that we have THE BEST group of classmates anyone could ever ask for? What a wonderful mix of lives lived (and still living), stories to tell and great memories of those who can bring up names/dates from yesteryear.

It was a gorgeous fall day with temperatures nearing 80. A big group of school kids were dining in “our” place, but they finished and headed off to the playground, so then we quickly took over the covered picnic table area. Those who gathered were: Diane Becker, John Bender and spouse Cara, Patty Bender, Judy Bouska, Sharon Christopherson and spouse Ron Wilson, Gayle Deutscher and spouse, Mel Streyle, Max Frazier & spouse, Tonya, Faye Grady, Larry Leno, Carolyn Marshall, Fred McFarland, Dennis Morita, Annette Reiswig, Marsha Sanger, Shirley Savig, Mavis Seibel, Ron Suess, Mike Sullivan, Corky Viet, Steve Walker, Kathy Welsh, Janet Woehl and younger sister Joanie.

These wonderful classmates sent an e-mail of regret or responded to my last update from our #46 gathering or I saw them out and about: Bill Belforte, John Blaufus, Diane Brusch, Dianne Cooper, Carolyn DeVinny, Katy Daughtery, Tom Dearborn, Clyde Ehrhardt, Starla Filler, Cherie Flower, Claire Fujita, Bob Fuller, Jerry Hugo, Dave Johnson, Kathy Kammerer, Janie Keir, Judie Keir, Nileta Lerza, Sandy Lind, Carolyn Marshall, Georgia Maul, Stan Melcher, Marilyn Ostermann, Elisa Righetti, Robert Rocque, Doug Saddler, Pat Sanguinetti, Shirley Savig, Maxine Schaffer, Bob Schenone, Donna Schumacher, Marlene Stout, Madeline Terrell, Lynette Walther, Shirlee Weaver, Dewey Willis, Janice Woehl, and Mike Zeitner.

We have unfortunately had to give our final good-byes to one of our classmates since our last update, Carmen Marin Molina. I will attach her obituary here:

Mavis’ husband, Don Cook, passed away very suddenly this last August 11. Ron Suess drove over from Santa Rosa to deliver his memorial service which was held at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi. Thank you Ron for a job very well done. You ARE appreciated.

Mike Sullivan stopped at Phillips Farms (Michael David Vineyards) and bought two pies, pumpkin and mixed berry, to share. THANK YOU, Mike, for your very sweet treat to make us even sweeter than we already are Sharon Christopherson brought a plate of homemade cookies to share. THANK YOU, Sharon, for your yummy contribution to our ever-growing waistlines.

We brought our “class meeting” to order by sitting in kind of a circle facing each other and taking an active part by standing and introducing him/herself and then giving a brief update. EVERY- ONE was a very willing participant. All actually behaved in a “Class of 1960” manner, with very appropriate comments (jabs/zingers) spiced here and there. ALL were in fine form, as usual.

It’s fun to hear back from our classmates many of whom are traveling all over the world seeking adventures. Most of us are staying fairly close to home and savoring each day with family and friends. Many of us are reaching out by volunteering at the different places that always need helping hands by giving back to society. Do give that smile to a stranger, or make that call, e-mail, text, to a friend, or family member each day to do a good deed.

Mavis spoke of one of our classmates, Cheryl Reutter, who’s now in Wine Country Care Center 321 W. Turner Road and suffering from dementia. As I ironed my blouse this morning, I stopped to think just how thankful I am that I’m still able to do that. I’m starting to think all about “the little stuff” that’s really SO important and we’ve always taken for granted. So, CELEBRATE every day. Okay, enough. I’ll get off of my soapbox.

A first-timer, Max Frazier, brought along his bride of 57 years, Tonya. They both looked terrific! Hopefully they’ll return.

In a few months, April 2019, we’ll start planning our next reunion and will do so at these luncheon gatherings. So, please do show up, join in and bring your ideas.

New hips, knees, crowns, etc. were topics for discussion and all are now in place and in good working order.
